3— Address long-term maintenance and funding needs for wildlife habitat areas (West Area and<br />
Northstar ponds, Putah Creek, Covell Drain and dedicated species habitats for owls, fox, etc.). Prioritize<br />
areas within <strong>City</strong> limits.<br />
3— Continue to pursue implementation <strong>of</strong> urban limit line, farmland protection and habitat conservation<br />
through acquisition <strong>of</strong> open space/easements.<br />
3— Expand alternative energy facilities, such as community solar facilities and other competitive<br />

1—Work with local Non-Governmental Organizations and subject matter experts to develop, identify<br />

achieve cost savings and GHG reductions consistent with the CAAP (41% reduction below 20<strong>10</strong>).<br />

Identify and implement practices to reduce use <strong>of</strong> paper in all aspects <strong>of</strong> city business.<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> the Climate Action <strong>Plan</strong>, such as Valley Climate Action Center, Cool Davis<br />
Foundation, UC Davis, etc.<br />
Begin an assessment <strong>of</strong> climate-related vulnerabilities <strong>of</strong> local food, water and energy supplies,<br />
infrastructure and the public health system.<br />

7.1.3 Alignment <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources Commission Priorities with <strong>Council</strong> Direction<br />
The purpose/functions <strong>of</strong> the Natural Resources Commission that relate to the recycling program are as follows:<br />
Advises the <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> on the preservation, management and enhancement <strong>of</strong> the city's natural<br />
resources.<br />
Reviews and recommends ways to implement the Yolo County Solid <strong>Waste</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and improve city-wide<br />
recycling efforts.<br />
Advises on environmental matters relating to global warming, and toxic and hazardous substances.<br />
Reports to the <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> recommendations for legislation and other actions that would limit actual or<br />
potential threats to the natural resources <strong>of</strong> the city.<br />
