Traditional Use Studies provide valuable information on cultural resources so they can be enhanced and protected. Number of hours by community in plan area Percent of hectares of traditional territory Proxy Method- measured through interviews with key informants (elders, tribal leaders) in the community. Information from provincial archaeology and heritage resource inventories and surveys; research institutions (universities); tribal councils, overlaid with traditional territory maps provided by tribal councils and First Nations. Current Schedule C and G indicators not recommended: 1. Identification of First Nations cultural traditional resources Rationale: While identification of cultural resources is an important first step in increasing First Nations access and use of sustenance resources, this indicator is not useful for measuring change over time. The number of new archaeological studies or Traditional Use Studies conducted and number reviewed by First Nations is recommended because of its comparability over time. 65
