to Inuktitut, the language <strong>of</strong> the Inuit people, is signifi cant. Language is a key<br />

element <strong>of</strong> identity and an acknowledgement <strong>of</strong> the culture. Inuktitut will be the<br />

language <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>struction <strong>for</strong> such subjects as Inuit history, traditions, culture, and<br />

geography. One implication <strong>of</strong> this bil<strong>in</strong>gual system is a need <strong>for</strong> teachers who can<br />

teach <strong>in</strong> both English and Inuktitut.<br />
