8.11 Checking the Rectifier Diodes<br />

Prerequisites <strong>Generator</strong> shut down<br />

Procedure Follow the procedures below to check the rectifier diodes.<br />

1. Remove the rear baffle (a) from the machine.<br />

2. Remove the cover (b) from the generator.<br />

3. Rotate the engine to access the diodes.<br />

4. Using the diode scale on your multimeter, place the meter leads near the diode,<br />

one on either side. Reverse the probes of your meter and check the diode<br />

again.<br />

Each diode should conduct in one direction and not in the other. Your meter should<br />

read 0.4–0.5V in the direction that conducts.<br />

Does each diode check OK?<br />

Yes No<br />

The diodes are OK. Replace all diodes.<br />

Call <strong>Wacker</strong> Service.<br />

The rectifier diodes have now been checked. Continue with Section 8.12 Checking<br />

the Main Rotor Winding. Note: If moving on to the next test, leave the generator<br />

disassembled.<br />
