Codensa, a Colombian subsidiary <strong>of</strong> Endesa utilized its unique knowledge <strong>of</strong> 6m transactions each month <strong>to</strong> dramatically<br />

increase its revenue per cus<strong>to</strong>mer. For its 550k BOP cus<strong>to</strong>mers it <strong>of</strong>fered microcredit <strong>for</strong> electrical appliances and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

household items. This grew average monthly operating income from targeted cus<strong>to</strong>mers from $23 <strong>to</strong> $32. The<br />

consumer credit business experiences less bad debt than <strong>the</strong> banking sec<strong>to</strong>r average.<br />
