The audited figures here are lower than the figure released by the Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />
Education which was reported at 5,339,012 students. This is due to the fact that<br />
the audit was carried out prior to the closing and reconciliation <strong>of</strong> accounts,<br />
resulting in the discrepancy in the figures.<br />
INITIaTIvES<br />
3.1<br />
The efforts to help build homes for the poor is<br />
commendable. Some <strong>of</strong> them really cannot afford<br />
to rebuild their homes. It has improved their lives by<br />
making sure they have a comfortable environment<br />
to live in. I am a recipient <strong>of</strong> the BR1M programme.<br />
I spent it on buying books, stationery paid fees for<br />
my children.<br />

The 1<strong>Malaysia</strong> People’s Assistance Programme or<br />
Bantuan Rakyat 1<strong>Malaysia</strong> (BR1M) is a programme<br />
tailored to respond quickly to changes in the<br />
economic environment. The programme has assisted<br />
more households in the country than originally<br />
expected. The original target based on the Household<br />
Income Survey 2009/10 by Department <strong>of</strong> Statistics,<br />
<strong>Malaysia</strong> was 3.4 million households. Actual recipients<br />
are totalled at 4,179,061 households, 22.91% higher<br />
than target. This has enabled the Government to<br />
assist to reduce the burden <strong>of</strong> rising cost <strong>of</strong> living.<br />
The Back to School Incentive programme distributed RM100<br />
to every enrolled student from Primary One to Form Five. A<br />
total <strong>of</strong> 5,331,207 students benefited from this programme.<br />
Tertiary education students were provided for under<br />
the 1<strong>Malaysia</strong> Book Voucher programme, or Baucar Buku<br />
1<strong>Malaysia</strong> (BB1M), and received RM200 each to assist them<br />
manage the costs <strong>of</strong> education. The programme benefited<br />
1,275,065 Form Six, matriculation, college and university<br />
students.<br />
The 1<strong>Malaysia</strong> People’s Menu, or Menu Rakyat 1<strong>Malaysia</strong><br />
(MR1M), has enjoyed great support from and participation by<br />
food outlets. The programme <strong>of</strong>fers breakfast and lunch at<br />
affordable prices. Prices are set as follows<br />
