Nursing – Practical<br />

Advanced Certificate – PNUR.CRT.C73<br />

Practical Nursing is a one-year certificate program designed to prepare individuals to assume the roles and responsibilities<br />

of the practical nurse.<br />

Consult a KCC adviser or the “Information on Health Career Programs” handout for program entry requirements.<br />

Upon successful completion of the program, the individual is eligible to apply to take the National Council<br />

Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses.<br />

Nursing – Practical Certificate Major (5 courses) Credit hours: 27<br />

A minimum grade of C is required for all of these courses.<br />

* PNUR 1138 - Practical Nursing I<br />

* PNUR 1241 - Practical Nursing Pharmacology I<br />

* PNUR 1140 - Practical Nursing II<br />

* PNUR 1262 - Practical Nursing Pharmacology II<br />

* PNUR 1316 - Practical Nursing III<br />

General Education (3-4 courses) Credit hours: <strong>10</strong>-14<br />

Complete both sub-requirements:<br />

1. Communications courses - 6 credit hours<br />

CHOOSE TWO courses from the following four options:<br />

Nursing Assistant<br />

Certificate in Nursing Assistant<br />

Curriculum code: CNA.CRT.C72<br />

The Nursing Assistant program is designed to prepare individuals to administer patient care as members of a<br />

nursing team in hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, and other extended care facilities. The nursing<br />

assistant course consists of 157 hours of theory, laboratory and clinical content. The course is approved by the<br />

Illinois Department of Public Health. Only PNUR 1438 is required to receive the Illinois Department of Public<br />

Health approved certificate. Successful completion of the NATCEP exam may be required for employment. The<br />

Health Care Worker Background Check Act requires that students have a non-fingerprint criminal background<br />

check initiated at the beginning of the program.<br />
