This course studies the fundamental roles and importance of<br />

transportation in companies and society. The course evaluates<br />

the complex environment in which transportation services<br />

are provided and discusses how to adapt to a fast-paced and<br />

rapidly changing industry. Specific topics include overview of<br />

transportation, supply chain, the economy, traditional modes of<br />

transportation, special carriers, global transportation, economic<br />

and operating characteristics of each mode, cost, prices, carrier<br />

strategy and information management.<br />

TWDL 1<strong>10</strong>3 - Introduction to Supply Chain<br />

Management 3/0 (3)<br />

This course covers the basics of supply chain management, which<br />

includes all activities in the flow of materials from the supplier to<br />

the consumer. Such activities include the supply chain concept,<br />

inventory and warehouse management, physical distribution,<br />

order management, materials handling, capacity management,<br />

just-in-time manufacturing and total quality management.<br />

TWDL 1203 - Introduction to Import/Export 3/0 (3)<br />

This course focuses on the practices of international trade<br />

professionals. It is designed to form a sound foundation and<br />

understanding of the major factors affecting the global marketplace.<br />

Students will build exporting and importing skills and an<br />

understanding of the methods and procedures of importing and<br />

exporting products. All of the major concepts and terminology of<br />

international trade will be addressed through hands-on activities<br />

and topic papers. Emphasis will be on practical details, and case<br />

histories will be studied.<br />

TWDL 1303 - Principles of Operations<br />

Management 3/0 (3)<br />

This course provides a detailed study of operations management,<br />

emphasizing the achievement of the highest levels of service and<br />

product quality while keeping costs as low as possible. This course<br />

provides detailed operations management study. The major areas<br />

covered include integrated product development, integrated<br />

supply chain management, process and capacity planning and<br />

control, inventory planning, forecasting, just-in-time philosophy,<br />

push vs. pull program, total quality management, and enterprise<br />

resource planning.<br />

TWDL 1402 - Transportation & Cargo Security 2/0 (2)<br />

This course examines relevant facets of maritime, land, pipeline,<br />

and air transportation security related systems and associated<br />

issues. It covers applicable legislation and the agencies tasked<br />

to oversee each mode of transportation. It also describes how to<br />

implement an appropriate program to enhance the security of a<br />

particular mode of transportation.<br />

Welding Technology<br />

WELD 1114 - Basic Welding 2/4 (4)<br />

The student will be able to perform basic welding skills using the<br />

oxyacetylene and shielded metal arc processes. The student also<br />

will be able to explain the principles of shielded metal arc welding<br />

and oxyacetylene, cutting, welding, and brazing. Basic tools<br />

must be supplied by the student.<br />

WELD 1124 - Advanced Arc Welding 2/4 (4)<br />

Prerequisite: WELD 1114. The student will be able to explain the<br />

principles of design of weldments, weldability of metals, welding<br />

defects, weld testing and inspection, and preheating and postheating.<br />

The student also will weld various joint designs in the<br />

vertical and overhead projections using a variety of electrodes.<br />

WELD 1263 - Metallurgy & Heat Treatment 3/0 (3)<br />

The student will describe the physical properties of various metals<br />

and alloys, the classification of ferrous and non-ferrous steel, the<br />

effect of alloying elements, and the results of heat treatment.<br />

WELD 2044 - Pipe Welding 2/4 (4)<br />

Prerequisites: WELD 1114 and WELD 1124. The student will<br />

be able to explain the principles of ASME and API pipe welding<br />

and the ASME and API pipe welding codes. The student will<br />

develop skills enabling him or her to take the ASME and API<br />

pipe welding certification test.<br />

WELD 2124 - Tungsten Inert Gas Welding 2/4 (4)<br />

The student will be able to explain the principles of TIG welding,<br />

TIG power supplies and joint preparation. The student also will<br />

weld various joint designs in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and<br />

overhead positions using the TIG processes.<br />

WELD 2224 - Metallic Inert Gas Welding 2/4 (4)<br />

Upon course completion, the student will be able to explain the<br />

principles of MIG welding, MIG power supplies, and MIG joint<br />

preparation. The student also will weld various joint designs in<br />

the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using the<br />

MIG process.<br />
