Associate in Arts Degree<br />
Elementary Education<br />
The following curriculum is designed to satisfy the basic lower division requirements for elementary education<br />
majors at senior institutions. Students are encouraged to complete their Associate in Arts degree with an emphasis<br />
in Elementary Education prior to transfer. Students enrolling in this curriculum are urged to meet with an<br />
academic adviser each semester to review course selections and transfer plans.<br />

A minimum grade of C is required in *ENGL 1613 and *ENGL 1623.<br />

Choose three IAI courses with at least one from physical science and at least one from life science (see<br />
Page 37). The third course must complete either a physical science or a life science laboratory sequence. BIOL<br />
1514 - General Biology I is recommended by some universities.<br />

Literature or ENGL 1743 - Introduction to Literature is recommended as one of these courses.<br />

Choose seven (7) credit hours of courses from any elective area. A maximum of four credit hours can come<br />
from physical education activity courses. Depending on the transfer institution, PHED 1512 - Health Education<br />
or HLTH 1513 - Nutrition is recommended. A non-Western culture course is required. Courses in diversity and<br />
CDEV 1513 - Child Growth and Development are recommended. See Page 37 of this catalog for a list of available<br />
courses. Note: It is recommended that students use these elective hours to complete professional education<br />
core courses required in an elementary education degree or pursue an area of concentration.<br />
