DRFT 2164 - Technical Illustration 2.5/3 (4)<br />

Prerequisite: DRFT 2134. This course emphasizes presentation.<br />

The concepts of working drawings, assembly drawings, and<br />

exploded pictorial drawings will be addressed. Students will<br />

understand the difference between a drawing for marketing<br />

purposes and a drawing for manufacturing purposes. This course<br />

is also an introduction to Autodesk Inventor software.<br />

DRFT 2233 - Computer-Aided Drafting<br />

Internship (Based on demand) 0/15 (3)<br />

Prerequisites: DRFT 1213, DRFT 2134, DRFT 2414 and consent<br />

of program coordinator. Students will apply computer-aided<br />

drafting knowledge in a cooperating business under the supervision<br />

of a training sponsor and the program coordinator. A work<br />

log will be maintained, and a summary paper will be required<br />

upon completion of the experience.<br />

DRFT 2414 - Architectural Drafting 2/4 (4)<br />

Prerequisites: DRFT 2124. The student will create drawings<br />

designed to teach the fundamentals of architectural drafting<br />

including sections, detailing, and dimensioning. Each student<br />

will be required to complete a set of working drawings.<br />

Computer Graphic Design<br />

DSGN 1113 - Digital Photography 3/0 (3)<br />

This is a course designed to provide students with the photography<br />

skills to become proficient in the use of digital cameras.<br />

DSGN 1123 - Introduction to Web Design 3/0 (3)<br />

This course explores the generation and manipulation of Web<br />

content and Web sites using industry standard software, Adobe<br />

Dreamweaver®. Topics include: Developing Web pages, creating a<br />

Web site, using and managing images, creating links and navigation<br />

bars, working with layout and data tables, the effective use<br />

of rich media, and understanding Web design principles, basic<br />

HTML and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) structures. Students<br />

also will understand how to update, maintain and publish Web<br />

sites. Students will use effective visual communication in various<br />

publication scenarios. This class is geared toward the cultivation<br />

of work for inclusion in the student’s final portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1133 - Package Design 3/0 (3)<br />

This course introduces students to the principles of packaging<br />

design basics, allowing for the translation of two-dimensional design<br />

into three dimensions. By using industry standard software,<br />

Adobe Creative Suite®, students will learn venues of packaging<br />

design and production to communicate concepts into logical<br />

and effective comprehensives (mock-ups). This class is geared<br />

toward the cultivation of work for inclusion in the student’s<br />

final portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1213 - Photoshop Digital Imaging 3/0 (3)<br />

This course explores the generation and manipulation of photographic<br />

and graphic images using industry standard software,<br />

Adobe Photoshop®. Topics include: Bitmap vs. vector – painting<br />

and design, photo correction and manipulation, selections and<br />

masking, filters and special effects, and text and layer styles.<br />

Students will use effective visual communication as they explore<br />

various publication scenarios. This class is geared toward the cultivation<br />

of work to be included in the student’s final portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1223 - Digital Motion Graphics 3/0 (3)<br />

Prerequisite: DSGN 1213 or consent of instructor. This course<br />

explores the generation and manipulation of motion photographic<br />

and graphic images using industry standard software, Adobe<br />

AfterEffects® and Flash®. Topics include composition, nesting,<br />

resolution, layers, effects, RAM preview and animation, masks<br />

and track mattes, text, and presets. Students will use effective<br />

visual communication as they explore various publication scenarios.<br />

This class is geared toward the cultivation of work to be<br />

included in the student’s final portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1233 - Document Design 3/0 (3)<br />

Prerequisite: DSGN 1223 or consent of instructor. This course<br />

introduces students to principles of graphic design and production<br />

while creating documents using industry standard software,<br />

Adobe InDesign®. Students gain understanding of the relationship<br />

between type, illustration, and photographs in a layout. Various<br />

publication scenarios are used as examples. This class is geared<br />

toward the cultivation of work for inclusion in the students final<br />

portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1243 - Computer Illustration 3/0 (3)<br />

This course explores the use of illustration in print and Web<br />

publication using industry standard software, Adobe Illustrator®.<br />

Students apply the basic elements of art and the principles of<br />

design to each composition. Various scenarios will be employed<br />

to achieve effective visual communication. This class is geared<br />

toward the cultivation of work for inclusion in the student’s<br />

final portfolio.<br />

DSGN 1253 - Portfolio Development 3/0 (3)<br />

Prerequisite: DSGN 1233 or consent of instructor. This is a capstone<br />

course for the Computer Graphic Design program. Upon<br />

course completion, students must provide evidence of their understanding<br />

of the concepts and competencies gained in courses<br />

in the program. Students will learn the process of creating and<br />

selecting the content of, and designing the format for, a creative<br />

portfolio. Using Adobe Creative Suite® software, students will<br />

be expected to assemble and distribute a final portfolio, both<br />

digital and hard copy. This portfolio will be reviewed by, and is<br />

subject to the approval of, appropriate faculty and members of<br />

the Computer Graphic Design advisory committee.<br />

Computer Literacy<br />

Credit for COMP 1521 is reserved for students who have<br />

not earned prior credit in a more advanced microcomputer<br />

course.<br />

COMP 1521 - Computer Literacy 1/.5 (1)<br />

The computer novice will study the non-technical aspects of<br />

computers. Emphasis will be given to the impact of computers<br />

on society. A survey of basic hardware and software components,<br />

application in various fields, and hands-on experience using<br />

modern software in word processing are included.<br />
