MUSC 1621 - Community Choir 0/2 (1)<br />
This course provides a variety of choral experiences to community<br />
members – as well as college students – who are interested in singing.<br />
This course may be repeated for up to four credit hours.<br />
MUSC 1641 - Music Performance & Ensemble 0/2 (1)<br />
Prerequisite: Audition and acceptance into course. Students in<br />
this course will pursue excellence in music through the collaborative<br />
pursuit of musical expression. Students from all academic<br />
disciplines are welcome. Each student must exhibit dedication to<br />
the course’s objectives through exemplary attendance, discipline,<br />
and proper instrumental techniques. This course will be offered<br />
at Olivet Nazarene University.<br />
Nursing<br />
ASSOCIATE DEGREE (Registered Nursing)<br />
Students in the Associate Degree Nursing program are advised<br />
to consult the Code of Campus Affairs and Regulations,<br />
section 11.4, Page 173. This regulation concerns completion<br />
of all RNUR and BIOL courses in the Associate Degree Nursing<br />
curriculum with a grade of C or better.<br />
RNUR 1<strong>10</strong>6 - Introduction to Nursing 3.5/5 (6)<br />
Prerequisites: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program<br />
and BIOL 2644 (may be taken concurrently). The student<br />
will acquire knowledge fundamental to the development of basic<br />
skills and attitudes necessary to meet the nursing needs common<br />
to man. Students will identify and analyze nursing principles<br />
derived from scientific concepts of client care. Concurrent with<br />
this theoretical framework, clinical experience which will allow<br />
the student to identify and practice safe individualized care is<br />
obtained in community facilities. Each student in this course<br />
must have a physical exam, criminal background check without<br />
any disqualifying convictions and a negative drug screen.<br />
RNUR 1129 - Nursing – Adult & Child I 5/8 (9)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 1<strong>10</strong>6, RNUR 1451 and both BIOL 2644<br />
and BIOL 2654 (BIOL 2654 may be taken concurrently). The<br />
student will study nursing care problems of clients of all ages<br />
based on normal needs of people and on deviations which affect<br />
these needs in times of illness, injury, or surgical intervention.<br />
Concurrent clinical experience provides the opportunity for<br />
the student to develop appropriate skills in assessing, planning,<br />
implementing, and evaluating care of clients in medical/surgical<br />
settings.<br />
RNUR 1144 - Transition for LPNs 3.5/1 (4)<br />
Prerequisites: ENGL 1613, PSYC 1813, BIOL 2644, BIOL<br />
2654, BIOL 2714, graduation from a practical nursing program,<br />
practical nursing pharmacology course, and acceptance to the<br />
Associate Degree Nursing program. This course provides the<br />
theory and practice for practical nurses who desire entry into the<br />
second year of the Associate Degree Nursing program. Course<br />
concepts included are those in the first year of the Associate<br />
Degree Nursing Program which are not traditionally included<br />
in LPN education. This course combines classroom and clinical<br />
instruction. Each student in this course must have a physical<br />
exam, criminal background check without any disqualifying<br />
convictions and a negative drug screen.<br />
RNUR 1451 - Nursing Seminar I 1/0 (1)<br />
Prerequisites: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program<br />
and ENGL 1613 (may be taken concurrently). This course<br />
is taken the first semester of the program. It provides an introduction<br />
to historical developments in nursing, the conceptual<br />
framework and philosophy of the nursing program, the existence<br />
of illness, and unifying concepts basic to nursing practice.<br />
RNUR 1461 - Nursing Seminar II 1/0 (1)<br />
Prerequisite: RNUR 1<strong>10</strong>6 and RNUR 1451. This course is<br />
taken second semester of the program. It is designed to present<br />
an understanding of nursing in the community and develop a<br />
recognition of the needs and methods available for health care.<br />
RNUR 2119 - Nursing – Adult & Child II 5/8 (9)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 1129, RNUR 1461, PSYC 1813, and BIOL<br />
2714. The student will continue to study nursing care problems<br />
of clients of all ages based on normal needs of people and on<br />
deviations which affect these needs in times of illness, injury, or<br />
surgical intervention. The student also will learn nursing care<br />
concepts and principles of client care focusing on the maternity<br />
cycle and care of the newborn or care of the pediatric client.<br />
Concurrent clinical experience provides the opportunity for the<br />
student to continue to develop appropriate skills in assessing,<br />
planning, implementing, and evaluating care of clients in medical/surgical<br />
and maternal/child settings.<br />
RNUR 2124 - Nursing – Adult & Child III 2/4 (4)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 1129 and RNUR 1461. This course is<br />
designed to present theories and concepts which deal with clients<br />
presenting problems relating to psychosocial adjustments,<br />
emotional stress, and behavioral dysfunction. Concurrent clinical<br />
experience provides the opportunity for the student to utilize the<br />
nursing process with increasing independence.<br />
RNUR 2137 - Nursing – Adult & Child IV 3/8 (7)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 2119, RNUR 2451, and RNUR 2443. The<br />
course is composed of two medical-surgical nursing rotations.<br />
Advanced medical-surgical concepts are explored in the classroom<br />
setting. Concurrent clinical experiences focus on enabling the<br />
beginning graduate nurse to utilize the nursing process in managing<br />
and administering safe, individualized nursing care.<br />
RNUR 2443 - Concepts of Clinical<br />
Pharmacology 3/0 (3)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 1129 or RN license. Utilizing a nursing<br />
process approach, the student will identify fundamental<br />
pharmacological principles and develop a theoretical base for the<br />
skills involved in administration of medications. Fundamentals<br />
of pharmacology, including history of drug administration,<br />
legal controls, how medications work in the human body, and<br />
principles of drug interactions will be identified. Classifications<br />
of drugs will be studied to give the student knowledge of<br />
actions, interactions, adverse effects, contraindications, dosages,<br />
routes, and nursing implications. The steps of the nursing process<br />
are utilized in safe medication administration.<br />
RNUR 2451 - Nursing Seminar III 1/0 (1)<br />
Prerequisites: RNUR 1129 and RNUR 1461. This course is<br />
taken during the third semester of the program. It provides<br />
an introduction to legal aspects of nursing and ethical issues<br />
involved in nursing.<br />
