Phase I: Triggering event - a perceived threat (o<strong>the</strong>rs may agree or disagree that a real threat<br />
existed.)Triggering events fall into two general categories:<br />
a) Fear.<br />
b) Frustration<br />
Phase 2: Escalation - The person’s mind and body prepare to do battle w<strong>it</strong>h <strong>the</strong> cause of <strong>the</strong><br />
triggering event, muscles become increasingly tense and active.<br />
Phase 3: Crisis<br />
Phase 4: Recovery - The muscles become progressively more relaxed as <strong>the</strong> mind and body<br />
return to normal.<br />
Phase 5: Post-crisis depression - The physical and emotional symptoms of fatigue and<br />
depression dominate <strong>the</strong> <strong>behaviour</strong>al pattern until normal responses can be restored.<br />
