A suggested schedule to meet the Pre Health Professional Requirements<br />

and earn a B.A. degree in biochemistry is the following:<br />

The Molecular Biology and Biochemistry course could be switched during<br />

the third and fourth year depending on the interest of the student.<br />

DECLARATION OF MAJOR<br />

Before declaring a major in chemistry, a student must successfully (C or<br />

better) complete the introductory sequence (CHEM 1101, 1102). A student<br />

may declare a major after one term of chemistry with permission of the<br />

chair of the department.<br />

MINOR<br />

Fall<br />

A minor in chemistry shall consist of CHEM 1101, 1102, 2201, 2202 and two<br />

additional chemistry courses from the following: CHEM 2251, 3301, 3302,<br />

3311, 4421, 4422, 4431, 4451. Students must demonstrate proficiency in<br />

general chemistry by passing the ACS General Chemistry Examination as<br />

stated above.<br />

CHEMISTRY AWARDS<br />

The CRC Freshman Chemistry Award is awarded annually on Honors Day<br />

to the student with the most outstanding achievement in the CHEM 1101,<br />

1102 General Chemistry sequence.<br />

The A.M. Hicks Award for outstanding achievement in organic chemistry<br />

is awarded annually on Honors Day to the student taking organic chemistry<br />

who has attained the most outstanding record. The award is made in honor<br />

of Dr. A. M. Hicks who was a long time faculty member and chair of the<br />

department.<br />
