MUSI 3301 Music History 1. (3) Fall<br />

The study of the western classical tradition, from earliest antiquity<br />

through Bach. Emphasis on musical analysis and criticism.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSI 1102 or permission of instructor<br />

MUSI 3302 Music History 2. (3) Spring<br />

Music of the Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras. Course will<br />

emphasize historical analysis and criticism, aural identification, and<br />

research.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSI 1102 or permission of instructor<br />

MUSI 3331 Christian Hymnody. (3) As needed<br />

A survey of Christian hymnody in the English-speaking world from its<br />

roots in the early Christian Church to present day practices in worship.<br />

The study of selected hymns and hymn writers associated with a number<br />

of different Christian traditions will be included.<br />

MUSI 3352 Jazz Theory and Popular Practice. (2) Fall<br />

Theoretical foundations of the Jazz tradition, and consideration of<br />

related contemporary style; blues, fusion, rock, gospel, and current<br />

popular idioms. Aural skills emphasized, with keyboard harmony<br />

studies oriented to realizing technical comprehension of the material.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSI 2202<br />

MUSI 3366 Basics of Conducting. (3) Fall<br />

Conducting techniques, score reading, rehearsal techniques for choral<br />

and/or instrumental ensembles.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSI 2202<br />

MUSI 3369 New Media. (3) Fall<br />

Basic studio techniques, music sequencing, music printing, synthesizers,<br />

studio operation.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSI 2390 Audio Engineering<br />

MUSI 3384 Junior Recital. (1) Fall and Spring<br />

A 30-minute public performance of the student’s creative work and/or<br />

talent presented during the junior year.<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Pre-Recital Hearing<br />

MUSI 4210 Composition 6. (1) Fall<br />

Continuation of MUSI 3211. A projects course.<br />
