documentation and preservation, social or historic entry level research,<br />

or a field where their liberal arts preparation can be beneficially<br />

utilized.<br />

Graduates of the Department of History may be found pursuing careers in<br />

business, law, education, politics and government, broadcasting,<br />

journalism, the ministry and other fields of endeavor. In all of these<br />

endeavors, our graduates have found that their education has provided a<br />

foundation for their careers and for their growth in life.<br />

The Department of History offers the following major in history:<br />

A. Prerequisite Courses:<br />

HIST 1101 and 1102<br />

HIST 1111 and 1112<br />

World Civilization<br />

United States History<br />

These are prerequisite courses for the major.<br />

Prerequisite courses can be met by AP, CLEP tests, or by transfer credit.<br />

B. Two courses from:<br />

HIST 3307<br />

HIST 3308<br />

or<br />

HIST 3310—3311<br />

Two courses from:<br />

HIST 3301<br />

HIST 3302<br />

HIST 3320<br />

Social and Intellectual History of the United<br />

States<br />

American Diplomatic History<br />

Constitutional History of the United States<br />

Greco-Roman World<br />

Middle Ages<br />

Renaissance and Reformation<br />

Two courses from:<br />

HIST 3372 Europe 1660-1870<br />

HIST 3374<br />

Europe 1870– Present<br />

Required courses:<br />

HIST 2000<br />

HIST 4490<br />

Research Methods in History<br />

Senior History Seminar<br />

C. An additional nine semester hours of 3000 and 4000 level history<br />

courses are required. The total major course requirements are 33<br />

semester hours credit beyond 1000 level courses.<br />
