COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (NURS)<br />

Course credit hours and corresponding clock hours are shown in<br />

parentheses. One class clock hour/week equals one credit hour; three<br />

laboratory or practice clock hours/week equal one credit hour.<br />

NURS 3305 Nutrition and Health. (1) Fall<br />

An introduction to nutrition concepts and current dietary trends,<br />

focusing on health promotion. Nutrients are explored with regard to<br />

sources, dietary requirements, and health implications. Student interests<br />

are incorporated.<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

NURS 3310 Health Promotion I: A Focus on Aging. (4) Fall<br />

(2 hrs. class 6 hrs. lab/clinical per week)<br />

A foundation course to introduce and develop concepts, practices and<br />

processes of health promotion in professional nursing, emphasizing the<br />

needs of the elderly. The skills of communication, problem solving, and<br />

critical analysis in nursing are included.<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to BSN program.<br />

Corequisites: NURS 3311, NURS 3400<br />

NURS 3311 Health Assessment Across the Life-Span.(4) Fall<br />

(3 hr. class, 3 hrs. lab per week)<br />

A study of the health assessment process applied to persons of all ages,<br />

with emphasis on building knowledge and skill in data acquisition,<br />

organization, and interpretation.<br />

Prerequisite: RN status or Corequisite: NURS 3310, NURS 3400<br />

NURS 3312 Conceptual Foundations of Nursing. (2) Fall<br />

(2 hrs. class per week)<br />

An introduction to professional nursing practice and the varied roles of<br />

the nurse in multiple practice settings. Conceptual bases of the<br />

professional nursing role is explored.<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to BSN program.<br />

Corequisites: NURS 3305, NURS 3310, NURS 3311<br />

NURS 3313 Transitions: A Seminar for Registered Nurses. (2) Fall<br />

(2 hrs. class per week)<br />

A study of varied perspectives and conceptual bases of the professional<br />

nursing role. The research process and research significance in nursing<br />

practice is introduced.<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to BSN program, RN status.<br />
