The study of Visual Basic, an event-driven (as opposed to<br />

procedural) language.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 1990 or consent of instructor<br />

CSCI 2850 COBOL Programming I. (3) On demand<br />

The study of COBOL, a language used primarily in business data<br />

processing applications. Emphasis on information retrieval problems.<br />

Team project required.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 1990 or consent of instructor<br />

CSCI 2860 COBOL Programming II. (3) On demand<br />

Advanced programming concepts with a strong emphasis on ISAM files<br />

and interactive programming.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 2850<br />

CSCI 2900 Advanced Java Programming. (3) On demand<br />

Advanced programming in Java, including the Java utilities package, bit<br />

manipulation, collections, database connectivity, servlets, and JSP.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 3990 or consent of instructor<br />

CSCI 2990 Algorithmic Design. (3) Spring<br />

A continuation of CSCI 1990. Further development of techniques in Java<br />

for program design, program style, debugging and testing, especially for<br />

larger programs. Introduction to algorithmic analysis. Introduction to the<br />

basic aspects of string processing, recursion, internal search/sort methods,<br />

and simple data structures. Programming using graphical user interfaces.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 1990<br />

CSCI 3000 Introduction to Computer Systems. (3)<br />

Fall semester in odd-numbered years<br />

Computer structure and machine language, assembly language<br />

programming. Addressing techniques, macros, file I/O, program<br />

segmentation and linkage, assembler construction, and interpretive routines.<br />

CSCI 3050 Introduction to Computer Organization. (3)<br />

Spring semester in even-numbered years<br />

Basic logic design, coding, number representation and arithmetic,<br />

computer architecture, and computer software.<br />

Prerequisite: CSCI 1990<br />
