NURS 4440 Health Promotion III: A Community Focus. (4) Fall<br />

(3 hrs. class, 3 hrs. lab/clinical per week)<br />

A course directed toward the knowledge and skills necessary to the practice<br />

of community health nursing. Emphasis is placed on the promotion and<br />

protection of the health of individuals and groups within the context of<br />

community. A research project is completed focusing on a problem or<br />

issue in community health.<br />

Prerequisites: All Junior-level Nursing courses<br />

Corequisites: NURS 4430, NURS 4431<br />

NURS 4450 Leadership & Role Transition. (6) Spring<br />

(2 hrs. class per week, 180 total hours clinical<br />

practice)<br />

A course to facilitate the transition to professional practice. Leadership<br />

and management roles assumed in clinical practice and increasing<br />

autonomy in patient care are guided through preceptorial experiences.<br />

Prerequisites: All Junior-Level Nursing Courses and NURS 4405,<br />

NURS 4330, NURS 4430, NURS 4431<br />

Corequisites: NURS 4432, NURS 4433<br />

NURS 4460 Transition & Leadership for Registered Nurses.<br />

(2 hrs. class per week, 108 total hours clinical<br />

practice) (4) Spring<br />

A clinical practicum to facilitate RN transition to professional practice.<br />

Principles of leadership are examined as they relate to Nursing Practice for<br />

the RN.<br />

Prerequisite: All nursing courses<br />

Corequisites: NURS 4432, NURS 4433<br />

NURS 4495 Independent Study in Nursing. (Variable)<br />

On demand<br />

For students meeting requirements, the opportunity to pursue special<br />

interests beyond those in the formal course of study.<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of 2/3 nursing major, 3.0 GPA,<br />

and permission.<br />
