GENERAL COAL MINE INSPECTION PROCEDURES AND<br />

INSPECTION TRACKING SYSTEM <strong>HANDBOOK</strong> CHAPTER 5<br />

Within the panel, advancing or retreating section, <strong>and</strong> gate road development,<br />

from 1,000 feet outby the working faces to the mouth of the section, inspectors<br />

should collect at least two b<strong>and</strong> samples per air course.<br />

Longwalls<br />

Inspectors should collect at least two b<strong>and</strong> samples per air course within 1,000 feet<br />

of the longwall face. Inspectors should collect at least four b<strong>and</strong> samples from the<br />

immediate longwall return within 1,000 feet of the longwall face. From 1,000 feet<br />

of the longwall face to the mouth of the panel, inspectors should collect at least<br />

two b<strong>and</strong> samples per air course, on both headgate <strong>and</strong> tailgate sides.<br />

Bleeders<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample per significant accessible<br />

bleeder aircourse that is used as a return for a working section.<br />

Outby (not including the area from the faces to the mouth of the section)<br />

Returns<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample per significant return<br />

aircourse.<br />

Haulageways (main track or rubber tired haulageways)<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample per haulageway aircourse.<br />

Conveyor Belts/Conveyor Slopes<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample per belt flight.<br />

Return Regulators from Belt Entries<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample downwind of each significant<br />

regulator.<br />

Stageloader/Crusher, Glory Hole, Production Shafts, Inter Seam Shaft, Bunker,<br />

or Coal Storage Facility<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample per unit.<br />

Annual Sampling<br />

Inspectors should collect at least one b<strong>and</strong> sample from each significant accessible<br />

air course <strong>and</strong> bleeder that is not sampled quarterly.<br />

These sampling parameters are basic recommendations <strong>and</strong> should be re-evaluated<br />
