Documentation Required: Each explosives storage area shall be inspected per<br />

the procedural requirement <strong>and</strong> documented <strong>and</strong> include the location<br />

description. The appropriate ATF form(s) should be completed <strong>and</strong> included in the<br />

inspection report.<br />

13. Firefighting Equipment (Surface). An inspection shall be conducted on all<br />

specialty or st<strong>and</strong>alone firefighting equipment or apparatuses in use <strong>and</strong><br />

available for use. Also refer to the National Fire Protection Association ®<br />

(NFPA) Nos. NFPA 11A 1970 – High Expansion Foam Systems, NFPA 13 1969 –<br />

Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13A 1971 – Care <strong>and</strong> Maintenance of<br />

Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 15 1969 – Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire<br />

Protection, NFPA 17 1969 – Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems, NFPA 72A<br />

1967 – Local Protective Signaling Systems or NFPA 198 1969 – Care,<br />

Maintenance <strong>and</strong> Use of Fire Hose for further guidance.<br />

Do not distribute copies of these codes to non-<strong>MSHA</strong> persons, mines, <strong>and</strong><br />

Again, it is being stressed that these are copyrighted documents <strong>and</strong> we have<br />

acquired them for only <strong>MSHA</strong>. Any further distribution outside of <strong>MSHA</strong> is<br />

a violation of <strong>MSHA</strong>’s license.<br />

Documentation Required: Inspection of specialty or st<strong>and</strong>alone fire protection<br />

equipment should be documented <strong>and</strong> identify the location <strong>and</strong> type of fire protection<br />

provided (e.g., water line systems, 125-pound or greater multipurpose dry powder<br />

extinguishers, etc.). For the purpose of documentation for all h<strong>and</strong>held portable fire<br />

extinguishers associated with protection of a designated piece of equipment or a<br />

designated location shall be considered inspected with that piece of equipment or<br />

designated location <strong>and</strong> does not require separate documentation.<br />

14. Fuel Storage. An inspection shall be conducted of all areas where fuel is being<br />

stored including safe access, no smoking signs, combustible materials, h<strong>and</strong>ling,<br />

<strong>and</strong> fire protection for compliance with applicable st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />

Documentation Required: The location(s) of fuel storage should be documented.<br />

15. Haulage Facilities (including belts). An inspection shall be conducted of each<br />

haulage facility, including attention to safe access, h<strong>and</strong>rails, guards, equipment<br />
