6. Plan Implementation <strong>Program</strong><br />

Goals and Objectives <strong>of</strong> the <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>CIAP</strong> Plan<br />

<strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong><br />

The goal <strong>of</strong> the <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>CIAP</strong> is to implement natural resource<br />

improvement projects which have a lasting impact on the coastal community. More<br />

specific goals are listed below and were developed during the <strong>CIAP</strong> planning process.<br />

Measurable objectives from each goal are included in the associated project description.<br />

1. Acquire and conserve sensitive habitat throughout the coastal area.<br />

2. Manage the <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>CIAP</strong> in an efficient, cost-effective, and organized<br />

manner in order to meet the program requirements<br />

3. Raise public awareness <strong>of</strong> conservation and protection <strong>of</strong> coastal <strong>Alabama</strong>’s<br />

designated protected areas (Grand Bay Savanna, Lillian Swamp, Gulf <strong>State</strong> Park,<br />

Weeks Bay, Splinter Hill Bog, Perdido River Corridor and Mobile-Tensaw Delta)<br />

through the construction <strong>of</strong> natural resource-based educational facilities.<br />

4. Develop a tool to evaluate impacts to coastal <strong>Alabama</strong> marine, estuarine and inland<br />

environments resulting from present and planned oil and gas infrastructure<br />

associated with development production.<br />

5. Protect, conserve, and restore natural coastal habitat and wildlife through data<br />

analysis, research, and on-the-ground conservation activities.<br />

6. Facilitate management research <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>’s coastal environment through improved<br />

data collection systems, enhanced research infrastructure, and upgrades <strong>of</strong> research<br />

tools.<br />

7. Increase awareness <strong>of</strong> conservation and protection <strong>of</strong> coastal <strong>Alabama</strong>’s designated<br />

protected areas (Grand Bay Savanna, Lillian Swamp, Gulf <strong>State</strong> Park, Splinter Hill<br />

Bog, Perdido River Corridor and Mobile-Tensaw Delta) through the development<br />

and production <strong>of</strong> natural resource-based educational materials.<br />

8. Improve management and administration <strong>of</strong> coastal resources and help implement<br />

the <strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>Coastal</strong> Area Management Plan.<br />

9. Restore coastal areas by removing marine debris resulting from recent hurricanes<br />

10. Implement natural resource trustee assessment and restoration activities associated<br />

with injuries to natural resource trust resources, including but not limited to, fish,<br />

wildlife, birds and groundwater.<br />

11. Increase public awareness <strong>of</strong> conservation and protection efforts associated with the<br />

coastal marine environment.<br />
