Locally heavy rainfall and close proximity to vital commercial and recreational waterways<br />

underscore the importance <strong>of</strong> properly maintained and operated treatment systems. Reducing the<br />

area’s dependence on septic systems is expected to greatly reduce the introduction <strong>of</strong> pathogens to<br />

these waterways, which will decrease the frequency and impact <strong>of</strong> algae blooms due to nutrient<br />

overload; it will also reduce the number <strong>of</strong> marine life and human health warnings associated with<br />

wastewater contamination.<br />
