Type the following to stop the service:<br />

net stop CiSvc<br />

> To control the service in the control panel:<br />

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, and<br />

navigate to Services and Applications. Right-click on Indexing Service and select Start or<br />

Stop as appropriate.<br />

> To force a rebuild of the catalog:<br />

Stop the Indexing Service as described above. Right-click on System and select All<br />

Tasks, Empty Catalog. Restart the Indexing Service.<br />

Simple text search. You can bring up a separate search window by clicking Start,<br />

Search, For Files or Folders. However, you can also use MMC to test simple and advanced<br />

queries:<br />

> Open MMC (see above) and click on Indexing Service, System.<br />

> Select Query the Catalog, and in the main window enter some search terms below the<br />

caption Enter your free text query below (see Figure 1.2).<br />

> Click Search to create the hit list.<br />

Advanced text search. Same as for a simple search (see above), but select Advanced<br />

query before submitting your query. In the query you can use various operators to narrow<br />

down your search. Table 1.2 contains some examples. A description of the query<br />

syntax can be found at<br />

Use Advanced query for queries which involve properties. An overview of property-based<br />

> ISAPI Extensions for use with .idq, .ida, and .htx files in IIS Web sites<br />
