14. Cover functions for Music Styles and SMF songs<br />

The Cover function allows you to change the orchestration of the selected Music Style or SMF song based on one of the<br />

30 presets. The new version can be saved to a USB memory.<br />

Using Music Style or SMF Covers<br />

‰ Not available for audio files.<br />

The “SMF Cover” function provides “masks” that change<br />

the instrumentation of the selected Music Style or song.<br />

Simply by selecting another preset, you can cause a<br />

Viennese waltz to be played back by a heavy metal band,<br />

etc.<br />

1. Select the Music Style or SMF song you<br />

want to modify.<br />

See “Selecting a song or Music Style on a USB memory”<br />

on p. 35.<br />

2. Press the [START/STOP] button to start playback<br />

of that Music Style or song.<br />

The display changes to:<br />

5. Rotate the [CURSOR÷VALUE] dial to select<br />

“Cover List”, then press the dial.<br />

The display changes to…<br />

This allows you to listen to the Music Style or song<br />

before you start editing it. If you selected a Music<br />

Style, remember to play a few chords on the external<br />

MIDI controller. See also “Playing back a song or<br />

Music Style from a USB memory” on p. 36.<br />

The display changes to:<br />

“Cover (Style/SMF)“, the press the dial.<br />

6. Use the [CURSOR÷VALUE] dial to select one<br />

of the 30 preset settings.<br />

The names of the preset options already provide a<br />

good indication of what to expect.<br />

After selecting a preset, you can return to the original<br />

orchestration (“Original”).<br />

7. Try out various presets to how (fast) this<br />

concept works.<br />

Presets<br />

Original, Live Band, Pop1, Dance, Acoustic1, Ethnic, Hard<br />

Rock, Pop2, Techno, Rock1, Oriental 1, A Cappella, Rock 2,<br />

House, Classic, Vocal Pop, Oriental 2, Vocal Rock,<br />

Acustic 2, Guitars, Jungle, Traditional, Celtic, Vocal Dance,<br />

Funky, Brass Band, Hip Pop, Vocal Ac., New Age, Vocal Or.<br />

8. If you like the new version better than the<br />

original one, you can save the Music Style or<br />

song to the USB memory with this information<br />

(see below).<br />

NOTE<br />

The “Cover” information is part of the data only the <strong>BK</strong>-<strong>7m</strong><br />

understands. Other SMF players (or sequencer software)<br />

ignore these settings.
