freedom to practice their religion and go to the church they<br />

10. Chief: The chief was not an important person in the tribe.<br />

Directions: Now I am going to read more sentences using other<br />
words you have heard and practiced. If I use the word correctly<br />
in my sentence, circle the smiling face. If I do not use the word<br />
correctly in my sentence, circle the frowning face. I will say each<br />
sentence two times.<br />
11. Forward: If someone is asked to come forward in the<br />
classroom, it means they are being asked to go to the back of<br />
the room. (frowning face)<br />
12. Disappointed: A person is usually disappointed when he has<br />
his favorite food for dinner. (frowning face)<br />

Columbus or the Pilgrims. You should listen carefully, and then<br />
circle Columbus’s picture if the statement is something Columbus<br />
might say. Circle the Pilgrim’s picture if the statement is something<br />
a Pilgrim might say.<br />
1. I became friendly with the Wampanoag tribe, who helped me<br />
survive my first year in America. (Pilgrims)<br />
2. I sailed on the Mayflower. (Pilgrims)<br />
3. I sailed westward in 1492, because I wanted to get spices and<br />
