Week seven: Practice, practice, practice…<br />

Agenda:<br />

- Practice and consolidate all of the exercises the group has been<br />

introduced <strong>to</strong> so far.<br />

- Play CD excerpts (omitted in earlier sessions due <strong>to</strong> lack of time.)<br />

- Discuss any issues re mindfulness that remain unclear <strong>to</strong> the<br />

group.<br />

- Discuss termination of the program<br />

- Individual recovery plans<br />

Week 7<br />

The group were taken by bus <strong>to</strong> a meditation centre by the sea where<br />

we all spent a day (10am – 4 pm) practicing mindful sitting, mindful<br />

walking, Yoga, listening <strong>to</strong> excerpts from tapes and CDs, eating in<br />

silence <strong>to</strong>gether, and planning what they each needed <strong>to</strong> do <strong>to</strong><br />

support their own continued recovery. The day was marked by a great<br />

deal of silence and concentration. I think this is an important day<br />

where the emphasis is on the various practices themselves, rather<br />

than on teaching, problem-solving and discussion which dominate<br />

the weekly sessions.<br />

Because it was important for the team <strong>to</strong> fully engage in the practices<br />

during the entire day, and be present with the others as they also<br />

practiced, it was decided not <strong>to</strong> take notes. No new material,<br />

handouts or CDs were introduced on this day. There was a keen<br />

awareness among the group that this program was drawing <strong>to</strong> a close.<br />
