Before I was obsessed, went <strong>to</strong> extremes… should be studying 24<br />

hours a day… one week ago I found myself slipping back <strong>to</strong> that… I<br />

haven’t achieved the balance but I’m striving <strong>to</strong>wards it so my head’s<br />

still in recovery. I used <strong>to</strong> use a lot of drugs at exam time and I got<br />

through, so now I don’t have that I’ve got <strong>to</strong> use what I have.<br />

How much do you practice mindfulness now?<br />

Generally, when I’m walking… I try <strong>to</strong> do something in the morning<br />

and at bed time… twice or three times a day… I don’t take it overly<br />

seriously either because you’d hate it<br />

Have you had any relapse since beginning the course?<br />

No<br />

What kind of support would be helpful <strong>to</strong> you in maintaining your<br />

practice?<br />

Practice, <strong>to</strong> keep connected with it. Post-course strategy, like after<br />

care, discuss how <strong>to</strong> make it work… an after care model…<br />

personally, I meditate anyway, I will probably go <strong>to</strong> the Buddhist<br />

Centre, I’ve got on <strong>to</strong> Plum Village, I can’t do the retreat but they do<br />

have a magazine – The Bell… the AA do Grapevine, you use it<br />

between meetings <strong>to</strong> keep it real, because things fade in<strong>to</strong> the<br />

background.<br />

My idea is <strong>to</strong> practice with meditation, get the magazine and try get <strong>to</strong><br />

Plum Village (Edith is interested in going <strong>to</strong>o). The Dublin Buddhist<br />

Centre does groups so I’ll <strong>to</strong>uch base with them… I’ll try and keep it<br />

up. It’s like a diet: you know exactly what not <strong>to</strong> eat but you can<br />

always start <strong>to</strong>morrow.<br />
