The Stopfordian 2011–2012
informing him that the lively Tom Collins had been in an
offside position when he scored what would have been our
ninth goal of the day, served as a reminder of the sporting
spirit within our squad.
Our penultimate game of the season put an end to our hopes
of a 100% win rate for the campaign as we had to settle for a
goalless draw at home to Wilmslow. Despite some neat
second half link up play from Sam Harvey and Max Lederwerg
on the left wing, we were unable to find a breakthrough, with
the Wilmslow goalkeeper capping a fine individual
performance with a late penalty save; sorry, guys!
We ended the season in style with a 5-2 win against a good
Cheadle Hulme side in humid conditions. This meant that we
finished the season unbeaten, having won five games and
drawing one.
As a group, we would like to thank our coach Mr Wilson for
his help and support throughout the year. We would also like
to mention our friends from the school who are not in the
squad but continue to come to games and cheer us on from
the touchline.
On a personal level, it has been an honour to captain this
team and I would like to thank all of the squad for their effort
and commitment this season in what proved to be our first
unbeaten season. I hope we can take our team spirit and
togetherness into next season.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL
Just under a week later we travelled to Manchester Grammar
School. Our squad was under pressure because we knew
from previous years that they have a very strong squad. We
started well, with some strong challenges, but during the first
half MGS scored the first goal. We kept our heads up but
soon they put another past us. We had a few efforts which
came close but we could not find the net. Manchester
Grammar kept the pressure on; unfortunately, the final result
was 6-0 to Manchester Grammar School.
Our next game was against Wilmslow High, who also have a
very strong side. We tried our best but we could not seem to
get many shots on target. Wilmslow had two very talented
strikers who dominated the game. We battled hard but we
got beaten 8-0.
Under 13 Football Squad
The Under 13 Stockport Grammar football squad enjoyed a
mixed season. Our first fixture was against Sandbach. It was
quite an evenly matched game. We got off to an excellent
start, scoring the first goal, but every time we scored Sandbach
seemed to come up with the equaliser. After battling hard
throughout the game, we clinched the winner. The final score
was 4-3 to Stockport Grammar.
The next game was against Altrincham; this game was slightly
easier for us. We got off to another great start by taking the
lead. There was a lot of strong tackles and we played some
brilliant football. The end result was 3-0 to Stockport.
The squad’s last game was against Cheadle Hulme.
Considering that we had lost 8-0 the previous year the team
should be very proud of the performance. We were the
underdogs as our opponents had got to the quarter-final of the
National Cup. We defended very well but they eventually
broke the deadlock and scored. Cheadle Hulme went on to
score another. We did manage to score one goal, which was
a penalty earned by Zain Saeed and scored by Myles
Cartwright, but the final result was 3-1 to Cheadle.
Overall we had a very enjoyable season. Many
thanks to Mr Lorentz for being a great coach and
Mr Bowden for supporting us and organising the
fixtures.
