The Stopfordian 2011–2012
surprise appearance alongside Father Christmas and the catering staff provided a feast for all, which went down a treat. We
thank Warren House and the catering staff for their help and support with this event.
The Christmas pantomime was the last event where the whole
House were involved before the New Year. The House
Captains did a sterling job of co-ordinating a festive version of
the television show ‘take me out’ with an array of interesting
costumes and characters from various famous children’s
stories and nursery rhymes.
After the Christmas break many of the Intermediate matches
took place. A cold January evening saw the Inter House rugby
take place with a keen team including Mark Orpen, Jonny
Collins, Kyle Clapperton, James Samarji, Patrick Duffy and
Michael Solomou gaining valuable points and Inter Netball in
early January who played a spirited game and came a very
close fourth, but were worthy contenders.
Pupil extracts:
On Tuesday 7 th February the Intermediate House netball
matches were held after school. Our first match was against
Vernon, we got off to a bad start which continued to the final
whistle losing 4-1, but all the team enjoyed themselves. The
second match was against Arden, another loss of 8-3. A
catastrophe was, however, avoided after Nicholson’s Goal
Shooter fell and almost took Arden’s goal Keeper down too. In
the final match against Warren there was a battle to be had.
The team rallied at half time where we were 5-0 down and
managed to pull it back to 7-6, the closest and definitely the
most exciting match of the evening.
Well done to all the girls who played and
for sporting such a great team spirit right
to the end!
On Tues 28 th February hundreds of pupils packed into the
swimming pool to take part in the annual House Swimming
Gala. As usual, it was full of excitement and drama. Nicholson
had an incredible turn out with a competitor for every race.
We had a huge amount of support on the sidelines and as
always everyone had high morale. We started off well and
started to gain points. The Third Year races brought drama and
last minute wins and the Fourth Year races were much the
same. The Senior races were as always fast and furious with
brilliant performances from Julia Sutherland and Millie Ralston.
The end came and to finish off the excitement the relays began.
With some top quality swimming from Alex Jones and Hannah
Jones we managed to win a few of the relays. The end of the
gala came and although we didn’t win, we came a strong 3 rd
and a huge amount of fun was had by all involved; the
spectators and swimmers. Well done to everyone!

Hannah Jones also broke a new school record for the second
year backstroke and the First Year boys relay team took over a
second off the old record. Well done to all involved, some
great achievements.
Senior House hockey followed the gala with the majority of
the team unsure of the game, it was encouraging to see them
willing to have a go at a sport they would not usually play.
