The Stopfordian 2011–2012
GRASMERE
On Monday 11 th and 12 th June, the Year 3 children embarked
on a residential trip to Grasmere in the Lake District. The
children were very excited and also slightly apprehensive as
some of them had never been apart from their parents before.
The first stop was Brockholes where the children enjoyed
spending time in the adventure playground before boarding
the coach again for our next stop.
We sailed across Lake Windermere, wrapped up against the
biting wind and arrived at the Aquarium. The children were
thrilled to see sharks, eels, otters and mini monkeys amongst
many other exciting creatures. Other visitors complimented
us on the good behaviour of the children.
When we finally arrived at the Youth Hostel the children were
faced with the challenge of making up their own beds! One
hour later we had success, and dinner was served. The
children then enjoyed playing in the garden before retiring to
bed.
The next day we awoke to sunshine and set off for a short
walk around Grasmere and the lake. The children enjoyed
helping each other through the kissing gates! We visited the
gingerbread shop, found Wordsworth’s grave and spent the
last of our money in the gift shops. We had a final play in the
park where we ate our packed lunch then said our final
goodbyes to Grasmere.
It was a huge success and the children were disappointed
when it was time to depart for home.
