writing this? No, it’s the other half of Warren who, despite her
efforts to highlight issues like “mass participation” and
“inclusivity”, was equally eager to bring home the shield.
Despite the fact that we got off to a slow start in some of the
Autumn Term events, we put on a good fight throughout the
year. Akin to the Manchester derby, you could argue the
Arden/Warren fight for the Fallows’ Shield dominated our
efforts, thoughts and intentions all year round and we
attempted to hang on in there for as long as we could.
If you were lucky enough to have witnessed the sporting and
cultural splendour on offer in London at the end of the school
year 2011/12, the Fallows’ Shield and all of its excitement
might have paled into insignificance, but for Warren House,
our emotions were running high right though into the Summer
holidays.
There were notable performances in the Inter Netball, with
Sophie Cookson, Olivia Ronnie and Sarah Doran exciting the
crowd with their dynamic play around the circle. We came
into our own in the Swimming Standards and the Swimming
Gala, with Mollie Tinker, Maddie Crompton, Ciaran and
Connor Johnson performing brilliantly. The Senior Hockey
squad gave us a chance to prove ourselves, with exciting play
from House Captains Emma Lingard and Rachel Egan, as well
as Nicola Reeves and Natalie Clarke showing us what House
matches are really about. The results of the First and Second
Year Cross Country made us all smile, with particular mention
for Morgan Hanson and Mollie Tinker (once again), Patrick
Magner and Josh Foran, proving to us that Warren have got a
great future ahead of them. Inter Girls’ and Fifth Year Girls’
Tennis together with Second Year Boys’ Cricket were
additional highlights and although sporadic in our first place
positions, we were very much in the running right through to
Sports Day. It was only in the final hours that we had to let go
of our hopes of winning the shield.
As the Ferguson/Mancini battle continued in the football
premiership, a similar battle for first place in the Fallows’
Shield continued throughout the year. Is it “The Hanson”
Despite this last minute defeat, we continued to smile. With
our House Captains as the perfect role models, we held our
heads high, remained courteous in defeat, and applauded
Arden in their achievements. We could not fault the initiative,
integrity, teamwork and trust that our House members
demonstrated. We were able to witness some outstanding
