The Stopfordian 2011–2012
JUNIOR MASTER CHEF
As I love cooking I decided to enter the Junior Master Chef
competition. The first round was a food tasting and
Identification round. From this 16 pupils progressed on to
round two where we had to prepare a meal for one person.
Mrs Groves and Mrs Samways judged the meals and nine
finalists were chosen. For the final we had to cook a two
course meal for one within one hour. The judges were Ben
and Adam, chefs from the Grill on the Edge restaurant in
Alderley Edge; they observed and spoke to each of us whilst
we were cooking, asking us about the dishes and what
inspired us. I had chosen to cook a prawn Thai green curry
with sticky coconut rice and a chocolate torte with
raspberries. At the end of a frantic hour our dishes were laid
out and we had to leave the room. It took the judges
another hour to judge them based on taste, presentation, skills
used and preparation.
Eventually the winner was
announced after they had
commented on each of our
dishes. I was surprised and
pleased to have won, with
Natasha Hurst coming 2nd
and Ellie Goldstein 3rd.

had loads and loads of fun. We
meet every Blue Tuesday at 4 to
cook up a different innovative
dish. This year we have made lots
of great tasting meals including
chicken nuggets, chocolate tiffin,
Mediterranean salads, Jubilee
cupcakes and puff pancakes, and
that’s just naming a few. If you
are in the First Year and enjoy
cooking or just want to give it a go
then put your name down outside
T5 a few days before, get the
ingredients and pop along on a
Blue Tuesday prepared for some
culinary creativity.
CREATIVE CUISINE
This year I have thoroughly enjoyed attending Creative
Cuisine. We have cooked up some fantastic meals and have

THE GOOD FOOD SHOW
On Wednesday 23rd November at around 6.30 am, we
arrived in the school car park to find Mrs Groves ready and
waiting in the minibus. Wrapped up, we started the journey
down to Birmingham for the Good Food Show. As we walked
in, all of our senses were tantalised by smells, sights, sounds
and tastes, from the huge selection of complimentary food.
Our favourite was the Sainsbury’s stand, offering Christmas
products like mince pie ice cream.
Equipment demonstrations also filled the room; the Vita-mix
blender had our attention for at least 40 minutes. It is a new
blender that could do at least ten different functions, from
making hot soups and stews to blending rice to make rice
flour.
The best of it all was the live show of Saturday Kitchen with
James Martin in the Supertheatre, where we saw an omelette
challenge and many celebrity chefs making a variety of dishes.
The day finished with us all grabbing a Starbucks and heading
home, looking forward to next year.
