5.1 Select the location<br />

Site requirements<br />

Locate the <strong>ST6001</strong>+ control unit so it is:<br />

• within easy reach from the steering position<br />

• viewable straight on, or with a maximum viewing angle of 30°<br />

• protected from physical damage<br />

• at least 230 mm (9 in) from any compass<br />

• at least 1 m (3 ft) from any radio or radar receivers or transmitters<br />

The selected location should also:<br />

• be clean, smooth and flat<br />

• be accessible from behind (so you can secure and run cables)<br />

• have sufficient space to accommodate the rear of the control unit<br />

and connectors<br />

• allow at least 6 mm ( 1 / 4 in) between adjacent control<br />

units/instruments so you can fit their sun covers<br />

• meet the cabling and EMC installation guidelines detailed below<br />

The <strong>ST6001</strong>+ front cover is waterproof when installed according<br />

to the following instructions. However, you must protect the rear<br />
