Where are we heading?<br />

Implementation of key <strong>Council</strong> policy documents, such as the UDS,<br />

underpins the work programme.<br />

Central <strong>City</strong> Revitalisation continues with the implementation<br />

of A <strong>City</strong> for People Action Plan. This is a 12 year action plan that<br />

guides how public spaces and streets within the Central <strong>City</strong> will<br />

be improved and follows a Public Space Public Life Study by Gehl<br />

Architects.<br />

The Heritage Review is completed and the successful heritage<br />

grants programme continues. The Heritage Review focuses on<br />

built heritage within the city to define the strategic objectives and<br />

priorities and <strong>Council</strong>s role in achieving these.<br />

Investigation of financial tools/incentives and mechanisms to<br />

support urban regeneration continues.<br />

The <strong>Christchurch</strong> Transport Plan will be finalised. Implementation<br />

of the South West and Belfast Area Plans continues and a study of<br />

future land use in the North West of the city will commence.<br />

Development of a wastewater strategy begins.<br />

The Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) has proposed a major<br />

redevelopment of <strong>Christchurch</strong> Hospital. We will be working with<br />

the CDHB on aspects of the redevelopment which have impact<br />

beyond the immediate site.<br />

The <strong>Council</strong>’s bylaw review programme will continue to respond<br />

to changing circumstances and ensure the <strong>Council</strong>’s bylaw<br />

regulations remain current.<br />

<strong>Council</strong>-initiated plan changes and private plan changes progress<br />

through various stages of the regulatory process. A report on the<br />

efficiency and effectiveness of the <strong>Christchurch</strong> <strong>City</strong> Plan will be<br />

completed.
