Sensory, Motor Skills; Communication; Intellect; and, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional, Behavioral, Social Attributes<br />
(definitions available at https://www.umes.edu/Pharmacy/Default.aspx?id=24342) along with<br />
established academic standards to select students with the intelligence, integrity, physical,<br />
personal, and emotional attributes necessary to become an effective pharmacist. All students<br />
accepted into the UMES School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy must meet the academic and technical standards<br />
set forth by the college to insure that they will be able to complete all aspects <strong>of</strong> the<br />
curriculum. However, it is recognized that degrees <strong>of</strong> ability vary among individuals. Students<br />
who are unable to meet these technical standards are encouraged prior to application, to<br />
discuss his or her disability with the UMES School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy Assistant Dean for Student<br />
Affairs. UMES is committed to making reasonable accommodations to enable students to<br />
complete the course <strong>of</strong> study leading to the Doctor <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy degree.<br />
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT<br />
All students are required to have a criminal background check (CBC) report on file in the School<br />
<strong>of</strong> Pharmacy Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs and Office <strong>of</strong> Experiential Education. The criminal<br />
background check is performed by Certified Background, Inc, at the expense <strong>of</strong> the<br />

The Criminal Background Check is MANDATORY.<br />
Information from the CBC must be on file with the Offices <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs and<br />
Experiential Education, in the School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy before the student secures a<br />
seat in the class.<br />
Additional background checks may be required <strong>of</strong> external institutional<br />
partnerships prior to participation in experiential activities. Financial and other<br />
responsibilities for these CBCs are the sole responsibility <strong>of</strong> the student.<br />
Information on obtaining the initial CBC is mailed to each student who has<br />
accepted an <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> admission with the School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy for the incoming<br />
class.<br />
DRUG SCREENING REQUIREMENT<br />
Students may be required to perform a drug screening to be eligible for placement in specific<br />
external institutional partnerships prior to participation in experiential activities. Financial and<br />
other responsibilities for these drug screenings are the sole responsibility <strong>of</strong> the student.<br />
Additionally, each student is subject to mandatory random drug screening during the doctor <strong>of</strong><br />
pharmacy education program as requested by the UMES School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy and/or the<br />
experiential site. Failure to successfully pass a drug screening test, refusal to submit to a test, or<br />
any other violation <strong>of</strong> the UMES substance abuse policy, will have consequences that may<br />
result in dismissal from the Doctor <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy program, legal issues and/or financial<br />
complications for the student.<br />
