American Society <strong>of</strong> Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP)<br />
The mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>Eastern</strong> <strong>Shore</strong> Student Society <strong>of</strong> Health-System<br />
Pharmacy is to make students aware <strong>of</strong> pharmacy practice in health systems; provide<br />
information to students about career directions in and credentials needed for pharmacy<br />
practice in health systems; and encourage membership and participation in the state society<br />
(<strong>Maryland</strong> Society <strong>of</strong> Health-Systems Pharmacy - MSHP) and the American Society <strong>of</strong> Health-<br />
Systems Pharmacy (ASHP) as a student and upon graduation. The society will provide students<br />
with the experience and tools to continue pr<strong>of</strong>essional development and commitment to a<br />
career in clinical pharmacy. ASHP is the 30,000-member national pr<strong>of</strong>essional association that<br />
represents pharmacists who practice in hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term<br />
care facilities, home care, and other components <strong>of</strong> health care systems. ASHP, which has a<br />
long history <strong>of</strong> medication-error prevention efforts, believes that the mission <strong>of</strong> pharmacists is<br />
to help people make the best use <strong>of</strong> medicines.<br />
Kappa Psi Fraternity (KΨ)<br />
Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity is the oldest and largest pr<strong>of</strong>essional pharmacy fraternity<br />
in the world. Currently, there are 75 active collegiate and 55 active graduate chapters across<br />
the United States and Canada, and that number continues to grow with each passing year.<br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> Kappa Psi are to conduct a pr<strong>of</strong>essional fraternal organization for the mutual<br />
benefit <strong>of</strong> its members; to develop industry, sobriety, and fellowship; to foster high ideals,<br />
scholarship, and pharmaceutical research; to support all projects which will advance the<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> pharmacy and to actively participate in them; to inspire in its members a deep<br />
and lasting pride in their Fraternity and in the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> pharmacy; and, to render such<br />
other services to its members and its pr<strong>of</strong>ession as may seem feasible and as may be in<br />
accordance with the constitution and bylaws <strong>of</strong> the Fraternity.<br />
Phi Delta Chi Fraternity (ΦΔΧ)<br />
Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity develops leaders to advance the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> pharmacy. Phi<br />
Delta Chi, a lifelong experience, promotes scholastic, pr<strong>of</strong>essional, and social growth in its<br />
Brothers. They strive to provide quality services to their patients, thereby advancing public<br />
health and strengthening pharmacists as health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
Phi Delta Chi is America's first pr<strong>of</strong>essional fraternity in pharmacy. Since 1883, they have<br />
worked to advance the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> pharmacy and its allied interests, and to foster and<br />
promote a fraternal spirit among their Brothers. These primary programs will improve our<br />
Brothers and their communities: Programs to recognize excellence among collegiate and alumni<br />
Brothers and Chapters; the Prescott Leadership Award for excellence in a young pharmacist;<br />
training and education programs to improve therapeutic, leadership, and management skills <strong>of</strong><br />
Student Pharmacists and pharmacists; pr<strong>of</strong>essional and service programs to help the<br />
community; communication programs and publications to link all Brothers; and, fraternal<br />
programs to foster our Brotherhood.<br />
Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA)<br />
Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) is an educational service association <strong>of</strong><br />
Student Pharmacists who are concerned about pharmacy and healthcare related issues, and the<br />
poor minority representation in pharmacy and other health-related pr<strong>of</strong>essions. The purpose<br />
<strong>of</strong> SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate and execute programs geared toward the<br />
improvement for the health, educational, and social environment <strong>of</strong> the community.<br />
