the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs as soon as possible. They will not to be penalized pursuant to the<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy Attendance Policy, but will be expected to make up any missed<br />
assignments or retrieve classroom information through blackboard and/or the lecture capture<br />
system.<br />
If the School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy is closed, the affected faculty will reschedule activities as soon as<br />
possible. Activities may be rescheduled during evening or weekend hours.<br />
Students who are scheduled for an experiential rotation should consult the PEEM for the<br />
inclement weather policy.<br />
MULTIMEDIA RECORDING OF CURRICULAR MATERIAL<br />
All faculty are expected to use the lecture capture system when appropriate. Any other audio<br />
and/or video recording <strong>of</strong> instructional time will be allowed only with the prior approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />
faculty member being recorded. The <strong>University</strong> complies with the requirements <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Americans with Disabilities Act.<br />
ACADEMIC MENTORING AND ADVISING POLICY<br />
An important factor in a pharmacy student’s success in a program is the help he or she has<br />
available from advising, counseling, mentoring, and the degree to which such services are used.<br />
Mentoring, including academic advisement, will be provided by all faculty members in the<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy. Each student will be assigned a Faculty Mentor for the SP-1 academic<br />
year. All Students will meet with their Faculty Mentor at least twice per term to discuss<br />
program, academic, and pr<strong>of</strong>essional/career issues. Faculty Mentors will be notified regarding<br />
a mentee who does not pass a module, at which time Faculty Mentors will meet with the<br />
student to identify reasons for the academic difficulty and recommend an intervention, as<br />
deemed necessary. Student adherence to the Faculty Mentor meeting policy will be enforced<br />
by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. Faculty Mentors will also track students’<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionalization requirements, portfolios; and program progression.<br />
UMES SOP Elective Policy<br />
UMES SOP ELECTIVE POLICY<br />
A student is required to take a minimum <strong>of</strong> six (6) credits <strong>of</strong> electives. Electives must be successfully<br />
completed by the end <strong>of</strong> their SP-2 year. Previous courses taken as a prerequisite or for fulfillment <strong>of</strong><br />
another degree cannot be used to fulfill this elective requirement. No student will be allowed to begin<br />
SP-3 year rotations until electives have been completed.<br />
A minimum <strong>of</strong> three (3) credit hours must be UMES SOP electives. Any non-UMES SOP elective is subject<br />
to approval by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.<br />
Registration for UMES SOP electives will follow the procedures <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> and the UMES SOP.<br />
Elective courses will be graded using a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading system. Reassessment or<br />
Extended Learning is not available for electives.<br />
A student may drop an elective before the course starts or during the first 20% <strong>of</strong> the course. After 20%<br />
<strong>of</strong> the course has been completed the student may receive a “withdrawal” (W) from the course if they<br />
are unable to complete the course due to personal circumstances, otherwise they will receive a “U”. The<br />
student must fill out the appropriate paper work to receive a withdrawal. The “W” or “U” will remain on<br />
their transcript and another elective must be taken to fulfill progression requirements.<br />
