PRE-MATRICULATION REQUIREMENTS<br />

CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) CERTIFICATION<br />

Students are required to have certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers<br />

and CPR prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the SP-1 year. Certification should be through the American<br />

Heart Association. During the week <strong>of</strong> Orientation, CPR Certification will be provided to<br />

students who have not submitted evidence <strong>of</strong> completion. If a student fails to receive<br />

certification at that time, he or she will NOT be allowed to enroll in any IPPE or APPE.<br />

Furthermore, CPR Re-certification is required prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the third pr<strong>of</strong>essional year.<br />

PHARMACY INTERN CERTIFICATE<br />

Applicants MUST be eligible to obtain the Virginia State Board <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy Intern Pharmacist<br />

Certificate <strong>of</strong> Registration in order to enroll in the program. Registration with the Board as a<br />

Virginia Pharmacy Intern is required prior to gain practical experience in Virginia for licensure as<br />

a pharmacist. The Certificate <strong>of</strong> Registration application is available using the link provided<br />

below:<br />

‣ Virginia State Board <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy<br />

UMES SOP Office <strong>of</strong> Experiential Education (OEE) will assist with the application process for<br />

licensure in Virginia. During the week <strong>of</strong> Orientation, the OEE will collect the above mentioned<br />

completed application from each newly matriculated Doctor <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy student, along with a<br />

$15.00 check or money order made payable to the Treasurer <strong>of</strong> Virginia.<br />

The states <strong>of</strong> Delaware and <strong>Maryland</strong> do not require intern registration for gaining practical<br />

experience hours in a school or college pharmacy program.<br />

LAPTOP PROGRAM<br />

All newly matriculating SP-1 Doctor <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy students will be required to purchase a laptop<br />

computer through the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>Eastern</strong> <strong>Shore</strong>’s Laptop program. During the<br />

week <strong>of</strong> orientation, laptops will be disseminated and a subsequent laptop workshop will follow<br />

to train the students on the use <strong>of</strong> the equipment, including the s<strong>of</strong>tware relevant to their<br />

courses and assessments. Students are required to bring their laptops to class.<br />

TRANSPORTATION<br />

Students are required to have reliable transportation to allow them to get to and from campus,<br />

attend <strong>of</strong>f campus clinical rotations, and participate in other community activities as required. If<br />
