AWARDS AND CEREMONIES<br />

WHITE COAT CEREMONY<br />

Each new matriculating class to the Doctor <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy Program will be required to participate<br />

in a White Coat Ceremony. The ceremony is an introductory ritual which welcomes SP-1<br />

students as colleagues dedicated to patient care and marks a student’s transition to a<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional clinical program.<br />

PHARMACIST’S OATH<br />

Each graduating student is required to take the pharmacist’s oath during a ceremony that will<br />

be scheduled during Commencement Week each year.<br />

PHOLLIES AND AWARDS DAY<br />

Qualified students are selected each year by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Committee to<br />

receive cash awards, plaques or certificates. The awards are in recognition <strong>of</strong> exceptional<br />

academic performance, leadership roles or for outstanding service to the School or the<br />

community, and are presented towards the end <strong>of</strong> the spring term each year.<br />

SENIOR AWARDS<br />

Qualified students <strong>of</strong> the graduating class are selected each year by the School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy<br />

faculty and the Financial Aid and Scholarships Committee to receive cash awards, plaques or<br />

certificates. The awards are in recognition <strong>of</strong> exceptional academic performance or for<br />

outstanding service to the School or the community and are presented during Commencement<br />

Week each year.<br />

WHO’S WHO AMONG STUDENTS IN AMERICAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES<br />

The Who’s Who program recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> college and university students.<br />

Participation in the School and campus-wide activities as well as community activities is<br />

emphasized. Applications for the Who’s Who program may be obtained from the Office <strong>of</strong><br />

Student Affairs. The applications are reviewed and ranked for UMES by a nominating<br />

committee composed <strong>of</strong> faculty and students and the selections are forwarded to the Who’s<br />

Who program <strong>of</strong>fice in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Applications should be submitted no later than<br />

October 1 to Mrs. Celia Williams-Fowlkes, Somerset Hall, Room 116.<br />
