should call the School of Pharmacy 410-621-2292 and request that a staff employee or faculty
member contact the student.
Communications and Breaks
Students may not communicate with anyone (with the exception of the proctors) within the
assessment room or anyone outside the assessment room during the assessment. Students
may not communicate with anyone from another team during the team assessment.
Restroom breaks will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. Only one student will be
allowed to use the restroom at a time. Faculty reserve the right to accompany any student who
leaves the assessment room for a restroom break.
Disposition of Completed Assessments
For assessments using Scantron® forms, the form, exam booklet, and score report will be
retained by the School. Students may obtain temporary supervised access to the booklet and
score report from the appropriate department office.
REASSESSMENT AND EXTENDED LEARNING
Following each summative assessment, a day and time will be set aside for review and
reassessment to determine mastery of the assessment block competencies. A review of the
reassessment will take place after the reassessment is complete. Use of laptops and/or any
multimedia recording device will not be permitted during the review. In the event that the
student is not able to achieve the 85% required for passing the reassessment, they will then be
required to remediate through “extended learning” at the end of the term. Team points, if
earned during the assessment, will be applied to the reassessment. Honors cannot be achieved
on a reassessment.
Extended learning is an abbreviated program of restudy designed to meet the needs of the
students who require additional assistance to demonstrate the achievement of block or course
competencies. During extended learning, the student will be assessed again on block/course
competencies. Extended learning is offered only at the discretion of the School of Pharmacy.
Extended learning methods will be determined by the block faculty in conjunction with their
Department Chair and will be communicated to the student prior to or at the beginning of the
extended learning period. Duration, scheduling, and other requirements for extended learning
will be determined by the block faculty in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic
Affairs. Extended learning is considered to be a part of the regular educational process and as
such, the School will not charge additional fees or tuition. To pass extended learning a student
must achieve 85% on the summative assessment; students who remediate are not eligible for
honors. The inability to demonstrate mastery of the skill sets prescribed (pass extended
learning) may result in delayed progression. Team points earned from the original assessment
will not be applied to the extended learning assessment.
POLICY FOR THE DELIVERY OF FALL OR SPRING EXTENDED LEARNING
Note: Any deviation from this policy must be approved in writing by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
and articulated to the students at least one week prior to the scheduled extended learning. All matters
regarding attendance, dress code, assessment, etc. during extended learning period are covered by the School’s
academic policies.
