Shoes and Footwear<br />

Conservative athletic or walking shoes, oxfords, loafers, clogs, boots, flats, dress heels, and<br />

leather deck-type shoes are acceptable for the program and shall be clean and in good<br />

condition. Flashy athletic shoes, thongs, flip-flops, slippers, platforms, work boots, hiking boots,<br />

and any non-dress shoe with an open toe are not acceptable in the program. Shoes made <strong>of</strong><br />

canvas are also not acceptable. Closed toe and closed heel shoes are required in laboratories.<br />

Socks/hosiery shall be worn at experiential sites.<br />

Hats and Head Covering<br />

Hats, caps, and other head gear may not be worn in the building halls aforementioned during<br />

the hours that the dress code is in effect. Only headgear worn for bona fide religious purposes<br />

or to honor cultural tradition is permissible.<br />

General Personal Care Standards<br />

Adequate precautions shall be taken to maintain good personal hygiene. These precautions<br />

include regular bathing, use <strong>of</strong> deodorants and regular dental hygiene.<br />

Hair maintenance<br />

Hair shall be neatly groomed and clean, styled <strong>of</strong>f the face and out <strong>of</strong> the eyes. If close contact<br />

with patients occurs (e.g. physical assessment procedures); hair longer than shoulder length<br />

shall be secured. Hair may not be dyed any unnatural hair colors. Spiked hair, including but not<br />

limited to faux hawks and Mohawks, is not allowed.<br />

Women: Hair ornaments shall be moderate and in good taste.<br />

Men: Plats, braids, cornrows, and twists are considered unacceptable. Beards and mustaches<br />

shall be clean and well groomed.<br />

Cologne, perfume or aftershave<br />

The use <strong>of</strong> cologne, perfumes, body sprays, scented body lotions or aftershave shall be used<br />

with restraint. It is not recommended in the patient care setting due to patient allergies and<br />

sensitivities.<br />

Cosmetics<br />

Cosmetics shall be applied in good taste and moderation.<br />

Skin<br />

No tattoos or body piercings are allowed to be visible (other than earrings).<br />

Nail maintenance<br />

Nails shall be well groomed, manicured and <strong>of</strong> short to medium length that will not interfere<br />

with the duties <strong>of</strong> a pharmacist (e.g., dispensing prescriptions, compounding in the laboratory,<br />

making IVs, to facilitate patient care activities).<br />

Jewelry<br />

Jewelry and accessories shall be non-distracting and in good taste, with limited visible body<br />

piercing. Gauges or stretchers are not appropriate. Males are not permitted to wear earrings.<br />
