Outcomes.<br />
Students who have a satisfactory performance on the Progression Exam:<br />
Have no additional Progression exam-related requirements. Adjustments to scores for the<br />
PCOA exam will be made for the SP-1 students in areas <strong>of</strong> the curriculum that have not been<br />
covered. Students will receive a summary report <strong>of</strong> their exam so they can identify areas <strong>of</strong><br />
weakness or strength.<br />
Students who have an unsatisfactory performance on the Progression Exam:<br />
If the PCOA exam is used, students who score less than two standard deviations (SD) from the<br />
class mean in any subject area will be required to remediate those subject areas as described<br />
below. Students who earn less than 50 percentile but have no areas <strong>of</strong> significant deficiencies<br />
(as defined by the score less than the Class Mean 2 SD will meet with their mentor to devise a<br />
plan for improving their overall progress through the program. If a UMES SOP prepared exam is<br />
used, students may be able to take a pre-scheduled reassessment exam.<br />
SP-1 or SP-2 students who perform unsatisfactory on the UMES SOP Reassessment Exam or<br />
the PCOA exam may require remediation:<br />
1. Will receive the name <strong>of</strong> a faculty mentor who can assist the student.<br />
2. Will address each area <strong>of</strong> deficiency from the make-up exam through a written self-reflection framed in terms<br />
<strong>of</strong> the learning objectives from the module/course. (A template will be provided.)<br />
3. Will show the self-reflection to the faculty mentor for approval. (This can be done electronically through the<br />
E*Value Portfolio.)<br />
4. This portfolio must be completed and approved by the faculty mentor before the first day <strong>of</strong> classes <strong>of</strong> the<br />
subsequent Fall term. (SP-1 cannot start classes in Fall and SP-2 cannot start APPEs)<br />
SP-3 students who perform unsatisfactory on the Reassessment Exam:<br />
Students will meet individually with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to discuss their<br />
options.<br />
All students: Will place the results from the Progression Exam in their E*Value Portfolio.<br />
ACADEMIC STANDARDS OF PROGRESS<br />
GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING<br />
Students are considered to be in good academic standing and performing satisfactorily at UMES<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy if they have successfully achieved at least a level <strong>of</strong> “P” in all attempted<br />
summative block assessments, summative course assessments, cumulative year-end<br />
assessments, and experiential assessments.<br />
UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS FOLLOWING REASSESSMENT AND EXTENDED LEARNING<br />
If a student receives a “No Pass” on four (4) reassessments or courses during a term, the<br />
student will be required to withdraw from the program. The student’s status in that case will be<br />
withdrawal “not in good academic standing” and the student may request re-instatement<br />
through the School’s Admissions Committee (See Total Withdrawal p. 80).<br />
Students, who receive a “No Pass” or “Unsatisfactory” on three (3) assessments during<br />
extended learning, will be required to withdraw from the program. Students who receive a “No<br />
Pass” or “Unsatisfactory” on one (1) or two (2) extended learning assessments who wish to<br />
