During the Advanced Institutional Practice required rotation, students will effectively participate in the<br />

patient care decision-making process in the institutional setting. Students will apply knowledge, skills,<br />

and abilities developed throughout the curriculum to demonstrate their understanding <strong>of</strong> common<br />

disease states and treatment modalities and to provide patient-centered care and medication<br />

management in the context <strong>of</strong> pharmacy operations.<br />

PHAR 702 APPE – ACUTE CARE<br />

The Acute Care required rotation provides advanced experience in internal/general medicine in the<br />

acute care setting. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout the<br />

curriculum to effectively participate in the patient care decision-making process. Students will<br />

participate in a variety <strong>of</strong> clinical activities, functioning as an integral member <strong>of</strong> the health care team,<br />

and will demonstrate their understanding <strong>of</strong> common disease states and treatment modalities.<br />

PHAR 703 APPE – AMBULATORY CARE<br />

The Ambulatory Care required rotation provides advanced experience in the ambulatory care practice<br />

environment. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout the curriculum to<br />

effectively participate in the patient care decision-making process. Students will participate in a variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> clinical activities in order to demonstrate understanding <strong>of</strong> common disease states and treatment<br />

modalities and to provide patient-centered care and medication management.<br />

PHAR 711 APPE – HOME INFUSION<br />

The Home Infusion advanced elective experience will focus on provision <strong>of</strong> infusion services from a<br />

community-based pharmacy operation for home-bound or institutionalized patients. The student will<br />

gain experience in the research, preparation, and distribution <strong>of</strong> various home infusion therapies such as<br />

parenteral and enteral nutrition, intravenous (IV) antimicrobials, IV hydration, IV chemotherapeutic<br />

agents, and pain management. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout<br />

the curriculum to provide patient-centered care.<br />

PHAR 713 APPE – EMERGENCY MEDICINE<br />

The Emergency Medicine advanced elective experience emphasizes comprehensive clinical pharmacy<br />

services for the emergency department (ED) and all associated areas (e.g., pediatrics, trauma, and<br />

urgent care). Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout the curriculum to<br />

support evidence-based medication utilization by obtaining accurate medication histories, monitoring<br />

patient therapeutic responses, providing drug information for emergency department health care<br />

providers, and participating in the medication reconciliation process throughout the<br />

admission/transfer/discharge process.<br />

PHAR 714 APPE – HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY<br />

The Hematology/Oncology advanced elective experience emphasizes comprehensive clinical pharmacy<br />

services for hematology/oncology patients. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed<br />

throughout the curriculum to provide patient-centered care for hematologic and oncologic disease<br />

states, palliative care, pain management, oncologic emergencies, and related issues. Students will<br />

collaborate with other providers as part <strong>of</strong> the interpr<strong>of</strong>essional health care team.<br />

PHAR 715 APPE – PATIENT CARE<br />

The Patient Care advanced elective experience is <strong>of</strong>fered in practice settings where there is a significant<br />

emphasis on patient care. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout the<br />

curriculum to provide patient-centered care. The rotations may include focus areas such as infectious<br />

disease, pediatrics, cardiology, psychiatry, geriatrics, long term care, transplant, internal medicine,<br />

women’s health, and medication therapy management (MTM).<br />

PHAR 704 APPE - PUBLIC HEALTH<br />

In the Public Health advanced elective experience, students will demonstrate their understanding <strong>of</strong><br />
