During the alternating week, students will discuss activities involving the previous week's assignments<br />
which will allow the use <strong>of</strong> small group interactions to strengthen the learning experience. In addition,<br />
students will learn basic characteristics <strong>of</strong> the top 200 drugs through self-study.<br />
PHAR 573 - CONCENTRATED IPPE I<br />
When: Between the Fall and Spring terms or the summer between their first and second year.<br />
Number <strong>of</strong> Hours: 160-hour experience (4 credits)<br />
This Concentrated Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (CIPPE) course is designed to help<br />
students make the successful transition from the classroom to the practice environment via practical<br />
application <strong>of</strong> materials learned. The integration <strong>of</strong> classroom knowledge and experiential training<br />
serves as the cornerstone <strong>of</strong> the student’s education, instilling pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism, and ensuring<br />
competency in the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical care. CIPPE reviews the basic technical and distributive<br />
functions <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical care in the community environment, while providing students the<br />
opportunity to expand their knowledge base, practice their skills, and develop pr<strong>of</strong>essional attitudes in<br />
an actual pharmacy setting.<br />
PHAR 610 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: PRINCIPLES OF<br />
PHARMACOTHERAPY<br />
This course provides an introduction to the concepts involved in ensuring the safe, appropriate, and<br />
economical use <strong>of</strong> drugs in patient care. Students will develop a basic foundation in medication therapy<br />
management through an overview <strong>of</strong> the general principles <strong>of</strong> case-based problem-solving and a<br />
systematic approach to rational drug selection.<br />
PHAR 611 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: FLUIDS, ELECTROLYTES AND<br />
NEPHROLOGY<br />
An integrated study <strong>of</strong> anatomy, pathophysiology, physical and laboratory assessment, pharmacology,<br />
therapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, patient care, alternative/complementary therapies,<br />
pharmacoeconomic issues, medication use in special populations, and review <strong>of</strong> pertinent drug<br />
literature as they relate to fluid and electrolyte homeostasis, and the renal system.<br />
PHAR 612 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: CARDIOLOGY An integrated<br />
study <strong>of</strong> anatomy, pathophysiology, physical assessment, pharmacology, therapeutics, clinical<br />
pharmacokinetics, patient care, alternative/complementary therapies, pharmacoeconomic issues,<br />
medication use in special populations, and review <strong>of</strong> pertinent drug literature as they relate to the<br />
cardiovascular system.<br />
PHAR 613 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: IMMUNOLOGY AND<br />
RHEUMATOLOGY<br />
An integrated study <strong>of</strong> anatomy, pathophysiology, physical assessment, pharmacology, therapeutics,<br />
clinical pharmacokinetics, patient care, alternative/complementary therapies, pharmacoeconomic<br />
issues, medication use in special populations, and review <strong>of</strong> pertinent drug literature as they relate to<br />
the immune and musculoskeletal systems.<br />
PHAR 614 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: PULMONOLOGY AND<br />
OPTHALMOLOGY<br />
An integrated study <strong>of</strong> anatomy, pathophysiology, physical assessment, pharmacology, therapeutics,<br />
clinical pharmacokinetics, patient care, alternative/complementary therapies, pharmacoeconomic<br />
issues, medication use in special populations, and review <strong>of</strong> pertinent drug literature as they relate to<br />
major the respiratory system and the eyes.<br />
PHAR 615 - PHARMACOTHERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: GASTROENTEROLOGY<br />
