Administrator
Overview
As the administrator of a MicroStrategy system you have numerous
responsibilities such as:
• Installing and configuring the system
• Creating and enforcing security strategies
• Monitoring usage
• Maintaining stability
• Analyzing and improving performance
• Troubleshooting problems
MicroStrategy Intelligence Server provides you with the ability to
monitor, control, and troubleshoot nearly every aspect of the system. It is
the heart of the MicroStrategy architecture and allows you to:
• Manage and organize users, groups, projects, and database connections
• Coordinate and prioritize user requests
• Allocate the resources necessary to complete user requests
• Create schedules and manage schedule requests
• Manage security
• Monitor and analyze the daily activity of the system
The easiest way to understand all that you can do with MicroStrategy
Intelligence Server is to view it as a collection of sub-systems. Each subsystem
provides you with the ability to control a different area of the
overall system. A short description of each sub-system is listed below:
• Database connectivity: Controls all connections to databases.
• Job processing: Responsible for processing most user requests,
including object browsing, report processing, and element browsing.
• Monitoring and administration: Allows you to monitor all system
activity and respond to potential problems or emergencies.
• Security: Provides a complete security architecture that allows you to
easily control access to the system at a variety of different levels.
