VLDB Properties<br />

C<br />

VLDB properties (sometimes called VLDB settings) allow you to<br />

customize the SQL which <strong>MicroStrategy</strong> generates. You can manipulate<br />

things like SQL join types, SQL inserts, table creation properties, and so<br />

on. Use the VLDB Properties Editor to change the defaults to alter the<br />

syntax of a SQL statement and take advantage of unique, database-specific<br />

optimizations.<br />

Some of the qualities that make these properties valuable are:<br />

• Optimization: Take advantage of database-specific settings to further<br />

enhance the performance of queries.<br />

• Flexibility: VLDB properties are available at multiple levels, so that the<br />

SQL generated for one report, for example, may be manipulated<br />

separately from the SQL generated from another, similar report.<br />

• Complete database support: VLDB properties allow you to easily<br />

incorporate and take advantage of new database platforms and<br />

versions.<br />

VLDB Hierarchy<br />

VLDB properties can be set at various levels in the <strong>MicroStrategy</strong><br />

architecture. The following diagram shows the how VLDB properties set<br />

for one object take precedence over those set for another:<br />
