Miyamoto grew up in the 1960s. He lived in<br />
the country outside of Kyoto. His home felt far<br />
away from the noise <strong>and</strong> crowds of the nearby city.<br />
Without a television in his home, or even a family<br />
car that could potentially bring him into town for<br />
a bit of diversion, he had to find creative ways to<br />
entertain himself during long afternoons when he<br />
was not in school.<br />
Miyamoto enjoyed roaming around the open<br />
rice fields near his home after the harvest season,<br />
climbing into mysterious caves in the woods to test<br />
his boyish nerve. His family brought him to Japanese<br />
Noh plays <strong>and</strong> puppet shows,<br />
which he loved. His creativity<br />
CHILDHOOD blossomed in this environment,<br />
Miyamoto draws directly from <strong>and</strong> he discovered his gift for<br />
his childhood experiences<br />
drawing. He also created h<strong>and</strong>painted<br />
puppets for plays he had<br />
when he creates his games.<br />
He explained, “<strong>The</strong> setting for<br />
games like Super Mario Brothers<br />

written <strong>and</strong> produced. <strong>The</strong>re<br />
mountains like Komugiyama seemed to be no end to his ideas.<br />
