The pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by two small unbranched accessory rays.<br />

There are villiform teeth on the endopterygoid. The total number of vertebrae is 40,<br />

with 20 caudal vertebrae.<br />

Sixteen ribs can be counted.<br />

In KMNH VP 100,231, the body depth is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 4.7 times <strong>in</strong> the standard<br />

length. The head length is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 5.1 times <strong>in</strong> the standard length. The dorsal<br />

f<strong>in</strong> base is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 1.8 times <strong>in</strong> the anal f<strong>in</strong> base. There are 19 anal f<strong>in</strong><br />

pterygiophores. The pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by four small unbranched<br />

accessory rays. The number of pectoral f<strong>in</strong> rays is 11. The total number of<br />

vertebrae is 42, with 20 caudal vertebrae. The number of ribs is 20. There are two<br />

ural centra. There are four uroneurals. The first uroneural extends to the second<br />

preural centrum. The second and third uroneurals extend to the first preural<br />

centrum.<br />

The fourth uroneural extends to the first ural centrum.<br />

In KMNH VP 100,232, the body depth is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 7.2 times <strong>in</strong> the standard<br />

length. The head length is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 4.1 times <strong>in</strong> the standard length. The dorsal<br />

f<strong>in</strong> base is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 2.1 times <strong>in</strong> the anal f<strong>in</strong> base. The preopercle is L-shape. The<br />

number of pr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays is 11. There are 11 dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores.<br />

The number of pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays is 18. There are 19 anal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores.<br />

The pr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal and anal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by four small unbranched<br />

accessory rays. The totalnumber ofvertebrae is42, with 20caudal vertebrae. The<br />

number of ribs is 20.<br />

Remarks.<br />

This new species, Paraleptolepis elegans, is close to Paraleptolepis kikuchii <strong>in</strong>
