100,202, an anterior part of the body, with its leftside exposed. The length from the<br />

pectoral <strong>in</strong>sertion to the end of the hypural is 43.6 mm.<br />

Locality. Kumagai (KA-0), Kokura-kita-ku (Kokura Northern Ward), Kitakyushu<br />

City, Fukuoka Prefecture, <strong>Japan</strong>.<br />

Horizon. The Fourth Formation (the uppermost formation, W4, correlated to the<br />

Upper Wakamiya Formation) ofthe Wak<strong>in</strong>o Subgroup <strong>in</strong> the Kwanmon Group, the<br />

Lower <strong>Cretaceous</strong>.<br />

The orig<strong>in</strong>al description is as follows.<br />

Diagnosis. This new species differs from other members of the genus <strong>in</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g characters. The predorsal scutes are oval <strong>in</strong> shape with rounded anterior<br />

and posterior ends, as opposed to po<strong>in</strong>ted or concave ends. The body depth is about<br />

one-fourth of the standard length. The head length is about one-third of the<br />

standard length.<br />

The number of dorsal pterygiophores is 11 to 12 and anal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores is<br />

24 to 25. The total number of vertebrae is 37 with 20 abdom<strong>in</strong>al and 17 caudal<br />

vertebrae. The number of ventral scutes is 18 to 19 <strong>in</strong> total, with 10 to 11 scutes<br />

between the pectoral and pelvic f<strong>in</strong>s, and 7 to 9 scutes between the pelvic and anal<br />

f<strong>in</strong>s. The number of predorsal <strong>in</strong>terneural sp<strong>in</strong>es is 7.
