Wak<strong>in</strong>oichthys robustus gen. et sp. nov., caudal skeleton of the holotype, KMNH VP<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays is 10. There are 11 dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores. The number<br />

of pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays is 19. There are 19 anal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores. The pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by two small unbranched accessory rays. The pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

anal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by four small unbranched accessory rays. The total<br />

number of vertebrae is 47, with 22 caudal vertebrae. The number of ribs is 23.<br />

In KMNH VP 100,190, the first dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophore is between the sixth<br />

and the seventh caudal vertebra. The numberof pr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays is over 10.<br />

The number of dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores is over 10. The number of pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal<br />

f<strong>in</strong> rays is over 10. The number of anal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores is over 10. The<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by two small unbranched accessory rays. The<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays are preceded by four small unbranched accessory rays.<br />

Villiform teeth are present on the endopterygoid. The number of caudal vertebrae is<br />

26. The number of ribs is 24. The sagitta is large and round.<br />

In KMNH VP 100,191, the first dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophore is <strong>in</strong>serted between the<br />

sixth and seventh caudal vertebrae. The dorsal f<strong>in</strong> base is conta<strong>in</strong>ed 2.7 times <strong>in</strong> the<br />

anal f<strong>in</strong> base. There are 11 dorsal f<strong>in</strong> pterygiophores. There are 22 anal f<strong>in</strong><br />

pterygiophores. The number of caudal vertebrae is 22.<br />

Remarks. This new species, Wak<strong>in</strong>oichthys robustus is close to W. aokii <strong>in</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

almost same meristic characters, the position of median f<strong>in</strong>s, the form of median<br />

supraneurals and the long pectoral f<strong>in</strong>. But it differs from W. aokii <strong>in</strong> the proportion.<br />

The body depth of W. robustus is deeper than that of W. aokii. The depth is conta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

3.5 to 3.8 times <strong>in</strong> the standard length <strong>in</strong> W. robustus, 4.5 to 6.4 times <strong>in</strong> W. aokii
